Summer is a great time to begin lessons or get in some extra practice time. I encourage my students to practice whenever possible over the summer break while things are much more low key. The school break in the summer allows for exploration into other things aside from academics.
There are many good camps to look into for orchestral instruments. I have some listed on my “links” page. Private study should also be explored during this time if it has not been already.
For a child playing in a middle school orchestra, the summer break can mean a chance to better or keep up with your playing before heading back to school. In my studio, I urge my students to get as much playing in as possible over the summer. Some of my students even bring their instruments on vacation, although it is not always possible.
