What do I bring to my first lesson?

First time students will need:

  • A student violin (or viola) properly sized from a reputable local music store.
  • A set of extra strings (in case one breaks)
  • rosin (for the bow)….generally comes with a student package
  • Applebaum “String Builder” Book 1 for violin
  • Suzuki Violin School Book 1 for violin
  • A small notebook. (5×7)

Students who are transferring from another teacher or who have been playing in their school orchestra should bring the following:

  • Their violin complete with rosin, extra strings and whatever shoulder rest they have been using.
  • All music that they are currently playing and any method books they are currently using.  We have to know where we have been to know where we are going:)
  • A small notebook (5×7)
  • Your child will be asked to play a selection they feel comfortable playing so that I can observe their technique.
  • You may or may not have to purchase additional books based on what I observe at the initial lesson.
